A large group of students, youth, and ordinary citizens marched to the House of Representatives to protest corruption and demand accountability. Ricky Rivera of the Article 11 Movement reported on the growing civic action against the DPWH anomaly, ghost projects, and conflicts of interest involving lawmakers and contractors.
Congressman Tianco raised concerns over the legitimacy of investigations in both the House and Senate, pointing out that some legislators with contractor ties openly admitted their relationships. This clear conflict of interest undermines public trust, especially as these lawmakers decide on government expenditures and infrastructure allocation.
The scandal intensified when DPWH official Henry Alcantara admitted during Senate hearings that he frequented casinos—a practice prohibited for public employees. His revelations exposed the culture of impunity within the department. Senate inquiries further underscored the urgent need for accountability, while public support grows for new DPWH Secretary Vinceon’s vow to enforce strict punishment and even jail time for corrupt officials.
Article 11 emphasizes that taxes come from the sweat and blood of workers, employees, and fathers across the nation. To misuse these funds is a betrayal of public trust that cannot be ignored.
The movement calls on all Filipinos to unite in demanding transparency, justice, and an end to systemic corruption.
